KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Sunday gained 20.55 points to close at 2,164.48 points.
The secondary market opened at 2,143.93 points and went as low as 2,126.47 points. In the next moment, the index surged to the day’s high at 2,191.69 points before losing around 27 points to close for the day.

Along with the market index, the daily turnover amount also jumped to Rs 5.45 billion. The market has been in an inclining streak since the past two weeks. Over the period, the market index surged 275 points while the total transaction stood at around Rs 30 billion.
In the intraday trading, the market value of 133 companies went up, while 71 companies were the losers. Three out of the 13 sub-groups—banking, microfinance and manufacturing and processing-- were the losers. Life insurance gained the highest of 468.98 points.
Among individual companies, Himalayan Distillery Limited had the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 212.90 million. Barahi Hydropower Public Limited and Khaptad Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited gained the highest percent in their market values, while Buddha Bhumi Nepal Hydropower Company Limited were the top losers.
