NEPSE sees landslide fall of 79.88 points; daily turnover increases to Rs 19.74 billion

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday nosedived 79.88 points to close at 2,894.57 points.

The secondary market that opened at 2,974.46 points went to a downward graph till the midway of the total trading hours. The index recovered around 60 points in the next one hour. The market plunged to the day’s low at 2,886.38 points in the last five minutes. The market added only around eight points in the remaining period before it closed for the day.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, declined by 14.52 points. The daily turnover inclined to Rs 19.74 billion from Rs 19.16 billion on Thursday.

Among individual companies, 59 were recorded as gainers whereas 185 were the losers.

Out of the 13 groups, microfinance added 58.40 points to its index and was the single gainer. Of the losers, life insurance shed 369.41 points, while six other groups lost three-digit points of their indices.

Api Power Company had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 846.81 million. Mandakini Hydropower Limited lost the highest of 9.91 percent of its market value. Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited, Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited were recorded as the biggest gainers of 10 percent of their share prices.
