NEPSE plunges 19.89 points, while daily turnover declines to Rs 4.21 billion

KATHMANDU, May 30: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday declined 19.89 points to close at 2,069.53 points.

It was the second day that the country’s only share market posted a shady picture following the government’s budget announcement. On Wednesday too, the market nosedived 23.81 points.

The market opened at 2,089.42 points and lost around 15 points in the first half an hour. The index, however, reached the day’s high at 2,100.12 points in the next half an hour before it went to a downward trend in the remaining trading hours.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also decreased 3.90 points. The daily turnover decreased to Rs 4.21 billion from Rs 4.57 billion on Wednesday.

Manufacturing and processing by adding 82.58 points in its index led the three gaining groups, while hydropower and finance added 12.15 points and 3.31 points, respectively. Of the 10 losers, hotels and tourism lost the highest of 139.13 points. Life insurance and non-life insurance also lost three-digit points.

Among individual companies, 70 were recorded as gainers whereas 173 were the losers.

Nepal Finance Ltd had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 194.57 million. The company’s scrips also topped among the gainers. Pokhara Finance Ltd was the topmost loser.
