“My objective is to win the championship and lift the trophy,” said the 10th grader of Takshashila Academy who was selected for ANFA Academy run by All Nepal Football Association four years ago. Gharti Magar is also included in the closed camp training of the national team for the senior SAFF Championship to be held from September 1 in Kathmandu.
Gharti Magar, who has already debuted for the senior national team during an international friendly against Bangladesh on September 2012, also holds the record of the youngest player to wear the national jersey at the tender age of 15. He is optimistic of being named in the final national squad, which is yet to be announced. He was paired as striking partner of Bharat Khawas and was replaced in the 56th minute by Jumanu Rai during the friendly against Bangladesh.
U-16 team coach Bal Gopal Maharjan also sees a great potential in Gharti Magar and praises him as a gifted player.
“He’s a gifted footballer with a good touch and control over the ball and has quality finishing ability and aggression required to play football,” said Maharjan. “Though he’s technically and tactically sound, he, however, needs to develop more power and strength to cope at the senior level.”
Gharti Magari wants to be a competent player of the national team in the future.
“My aim is to be the best forward of the national team in the future,” said he. He is also well aware of the clinical finishing problem of the national team. “The national team is failing in striking lineup and I wish to be able help my country as a forward,” Gharti Magar said.
