KATHMANDU, Sept 26: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that citizens who turn 18 by March 4 next year—just a day before the scheduled election on March 5—will be eligible to vote.
The EC will soon launch a voter registration and update campaign to include these individuals in the electoral roll, in line with the ordinance issued on Wednesday to expand voter eligibility for the upcoming polls. At a meeting on Thursday, the commission decided to continue voter registration until mid-November 2025.

The interim government, led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki and formed following the September 8–9 Gen-Z movement, had fixed March 5 as the date for federal parliamentary elections. On Wednesday, President Ram Chandra Paudel issued an ordinance amending the Voter List Act, paving the way for new voter registration.
The ordinance particularly benefits first-time voters from the Gen-Z generation who have reached the voting age but are not yet on the voter list, ensuring they can exercise their right to vote.
