Nepali women advance into semifinal

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Nepali women team on Saturday advanced into the semifinal of First IHF Trophy Handball Tournament being held in Kathmandu. Nepal eased past Afghanistan 28-11 for its second consecutive win from as many matches played at the Physical Training and Sports Center in Lagankhel, Lalitpur.



Ranjana Rai netted 11 goals for Nepal as went ahead 17-5 by interval. Nepal also continued with its dominance in the second half scoring 11-6 to wrap up the match. [break]Palswa Ayubei was the highest scorer for visitor scoring four goals. In its first match played on Thursday Nepal had defeat Yemen. Nepal will meet Bangladesh in the semifinal.



Meanwhile, India also booked the semifinal spot by thumping Pakistan 55-16 . India took 24-10 lead in the first half and 3-16 lead for the comfortable victory. Rimpi BP was the highest scorer for India netting 17 goals. Farija of Pakistan scored four goals.



Under men´s section, India and Yemen booked semifinal spot as the winner and runner up of group A while Pakistan and Afghanistan made it to the semifinal from group B as the winner and runner up respectively.



India defeated Yemen 39-14 with highest 10 goals coming from Sumsher Singh. India was ahead 20-6 before the interval and scored 19-6 in the second half. Nawaf Mohammad of Yemen scored seven goals



Pakistan edged past Nepal 36-26. Imran Khan scored 14 goals for Pakistan as it was ahead 19-12 in the first half and 17-14 in the second half. Suraj Chand of Nepal scored seven goals.
