Nepali tankers leave for India after commitment against manhandling

BIRATNAGAR, Nov 1: Tanker drivers, who resorted to protest accusing Indian security personnel of harassing them, have returned to their jobs of importing petroleum products from India.

Vice-chairman of Petroleum Transportation Dealers Association, Eastern Region Arbindra Sharma said the drivers joined duties after Indian administration made commitments to deter manhandling during talks held between Nepali and Indian officials.

Sharma said 20 tankers have left for India to collect petroleum products on Sunday.

Tanker drivers had stopped operation and staged sit-in in front of Nepal Oil Corporation Regional Office after Indian police thrashed them for no reasons.

Import of petroleum products through Jogbani border entry point remained stalled throughout Saturday. Some 125 fuel-laden cargo vehicles had entered Nepal on Friday night.
