Nepali students prefer UK for higher studies: Education ministry

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The number of students acquiring no objection letter from the Education Ministry for the purpose of abroad study has increased.



Some 24824 students had obtained no-objection letter from the Ministry during the fiscal year 2008-09 whereas it has increased to 26,948 in 2009-10. [break]



Among the students taking the letters, the number of students aspiring to go to the United Kingdom is high. The ministry did not provide the number of students going to the United States, though.



In the previous fiscal year, some 6,627 students acquired no-objection letter for the UK while it is 19,068 during the fiscal year 2009-10. Likewise, the number of students obtaining the letters for study in India has increased to 428 from 58 while it is 552 from 376 for Bangladesh and 668 from 208 for Canada.



According to the Ministry, the number of students aspiring to go to Australia has decreased to 1,337 from 10,121 while it reduced to 238 from 265 for China and 758 from 805 for Japan.



There is a provision that no one shall go abroad for higher study without acquiring no-objection letter from the Ministry of Education and Sports according to the Scholarship Act 2021.
