A 30-member high-level expert task force had earlier recommended expanding test parameters, improving laboratory standards and adding essential diagnostic components to strengthen the overall health assessment system for migrant workers. Acting on the task force’s report, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security on Tuesday updated both the scope of tests and the fee structure.
According to the Labour Ministry, the revised fee was determined on the basis of the tariff set by the Ministry of Health and Population. While the cost of all 34 tests would exceed Rs 12,000 at government rates, the package rate has been fixed at Rs 9,500 to make the mandatory screening more affordable.
The MoHP also announced that, under the Foreign Employment Medical Examination Procedure, it conducted inspections and shortlisted 171 health institutions that meet the new standards as of November 20. This has enabled the rollout of the expanded testing regime and the updated fee.
Meanwhile, 29 institutions that failed to comply with the criteria have been delisted.
