The Nepali Embassy in Tokyo in association with Japan Mountaineering Association, Japan Alpine Club, Nepal Tourism Board and Non-resident Nepalese Association, Japan is organizing the event on June 1 and 2 in Tokyo Tower, according to officials at Nepali embassy in Tokyo. [break]
Besides felicitating over 150 Japanese nationals who made it to the top of the Mount Everest in the past, various other events such as documentary shows, photo exhibition, and other publicity programs on Nepal will also feature in the two-day event.
The function is mainly aimed at helping Japanese nationals learn about Nepal´s unique culture and tradition and encourage visiting the Himalayan nation, which not only boasts of the highest peak in the world but also the birth place of Lord Buddha.
Representatives of Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Association of Tours and Travel Agents, Ministry of Tourism, among others, from Kathmandu are also expected to reach Tokyo to participate in the event.
Over 30,000 Japanese are expected to attend the two-day event. Junko Tabei, who scaled the Mount Everest on May 16, 1975, is the first woman to reach on top of the the world´s highest peak.
