Lama successfully completed the giant slalom event in men´s skiing. He completed the first race of 320 meters in one minute 42.29 seconds and improved his timing in the second race by clocking one minute 31.39 seconds.[break]
Altogether 64 participants from 56 nations had competed in the event in which only 39 participants completed the race. Lama earned 638.52 points from the two races.
Chef-de-Mission of Nepal Chaturanandan Baidhya expressed his satisfaction toward Lama´s performance. “If we introduce more players and train them abroad, they will perform well,” said Baidhya.
Lama is a grade nine student at BST School and has already participated in three international tournaments. During his participation at the international arena, he received opportunity for training. Lama had participated in South Asian Ski Tournament in India in 2011 and the same year he had participated in Asian Children Championship. Lama was selected for the Youth Olympics based on his performance in China last month.
Lama had participated in slalom and giant slalom events. He had clocked three minutes 48.84 seconds to complete the slalom race and earned 994.69 points. In giant slalom, Lama completed the first race in three minutes 02.35 seconds and earned 716.92 points but he had failed to complete the second race in both slalom and gaint slalom events.
This is the first time that a Nepali resident has participated in the Winter Olympics. In the past, Non Resident Nepalis used to participate in the winter games.
The Winter Youth Olympics will conclude on January 22, Sunday.
