KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Nepal defeated India 3–0 in a penalty shootout, thanks to a brilliant performance by goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar.
The match ended 1–1 in regulation time before heading into penalties. Both teams had scored in the first half. In the 30th minute, India’s Soumya Goguloth capitalized on defender Nisha Thokar’s missed pass to give her team the lead.
Poland beats Switzerland 5-4 in shootout
Nepal equalized in injury time of the first half when Rashmi Kumari Ghising headed in a corner from captain Anita Basnet.
In the shootout, goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar became the hero, saving two of India’s shots to secure Nepal’s win.
For this friendly match, head coach Navin Neupane made 10 changes to the lineup, giving new players a chance. With regular captain Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) absent, Anita Basnet led the team.
India also fielded an entirely new starting eleven.
