Nepal’s COVID-19 casetally suprasses 500,000-mark

8,848 people recover while 129 die on Saturday 

KATHMANDU, May 22: The health ministry reported as many as 8,980 new cases of the coronavirus disease on Saturday. Of the 20,105 tests carried out at various labs across the country,  8,591 people tested positive for virus through RT-PCR method while 389 others through antigen tests. 

With this, Nepal’s overall casetally has crossed the grim 500,000-mark. The officials said that 505,643 cases have been detected through the 2,897,503 RT-PCR tests since January 23, 2020. Nearly seventy six (75.8) percent of those detected infections have recovered as of Saturday. Including Satuday’s 8,848 recoveries, 383,684 people have so far won their battle against COVID-19. Other 115,803 people, however, are yet to recover from the disease. 

Meanwhile, 129 more fatalities were reported from across the country in the past 24 hours on Saturday afternoon, said the ministry. Nepal’s death tally stands at 6,153 at present.
