COVID-19: Number of recoveries higher than new cases

7,226 recoveries, 6,939 new cases, 106 deaths recorded in Nepal on Thursday

KATHMANDU, May 27: Nepal reported 7,226 new recoveries from the coronavirus disease and 6,939 new cases on Thursday. This is the second consecutive day that the number of daily recoveries has surpassed the number of new infections. Earlier on Wednesday, Nepal reported 6,714 new cases and 6,716 recoveries.

According to the health ministry, the positivity rate on Thursday stood at 33.05 percent as new cases were detected through 20,992 tests [20,414 RT-PCR and 578 antigen tests]. 

Meanwhile, 106 other patients, however, succumbed to the second wave of the virus in the country. This has taken the country’s fatality tally to 6,951. It is to be noted that Nepal reported the first COVID-19 death on May 16, 2020, five months after the first case was confirmed. 

With Thursday’s updates, Nepal’s overall casetally has reached 542,256 of which 418,829 have gained recovery. Similarly, 116,467 patients are yet to recover from the disease who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, institutional isolation centers and home isolation.
