Nepal’s COVID-19 casetally inches closer to 600,000 including 5,042 cases on Saturday

KATHMANDU, June 5: The overall COVID-19 caseload in Nepal has jumped to 598,204 with 5,042 more people diagnosed with the new variant of the disease as of Saturday afternoon. 

According to the health ministry, 3,540 cases were detected through 11,471 RT-PCR tests and 1,502 through 5,343 antigen tests. Nepal has so far carried out 3,132,591 PCR and 66,689 antigen tests. 

Of the cases confirmed on Saturday, 843 people aged between 31 and 40 tested positive while 777 others belong to the 21-30 age group. Similarly, 125 children below 10 years of age and 62 senior citizens above the age of 80 were also diagnosed with the disease, revealed the data released by the ministry. 

Meanwhile, 8,243 other people got over the disease on Saturday, said the ministry, taking the country’s recovery tally to 484,373. This accounts for 82.8 percent of the total cases confirmed. 

The ministry also confirmed 68 deaths from the disease across the country. With this number, Nepal’s fatality rate stands at 1.6 percent. Since May 16, 2020, 7,799 people have died of the disease.
