Nepal records yet another highest single day surge of 9,196 new COVID-19 cases, 50 deaths, 2,905 recoveries in past 24 hours

Kathmandu Valley alone recorded 4,106 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday

KATHMANDU, May 7: Nepal recorded a grim milestone of 9,196 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, which is so far the highest number of COVID-19 cases to be recorded in a day.

Likewise, as many as 50 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), a total of 9,023 people tested positive for COVID-19 through PCR tests and 173 through antigen tests on Friday. In the past 24 hours, 19,987 PCR tests and 495 antigen tests were conducted across the country.

Similarly, 2,905 COVID-19 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. COVID-19 recovery rate of Nepal currently stands at 78.2 percent.

As of Friday afternoon, Nepal’s COVID-19 case tally stands at 377,603 and death toll at 3,579.

The Kathmandu Valley has recorded as many as 4,106 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Of them, 3,089 were detected in Kathmandu, 374 in Bhaktapur and 643 in Lalitpur districts.

There are 16 districts that recorded more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

There are currently 78,629 active cases of COVID-19 across the country. Of them, 72,769 are in home isolations, 5,860 in institutional isolations, 728 in ICUs and 231 on ventilators.
