Nepal receives Rs 57 billion in FDI commitments in 10 months

While the highest number of projects were in the information technology (IT) sector, the tourism industry drew the largest volume of investment.

KATHMANDU, May 14: Nepal attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments totaling over Rs 57 billion in the first ten months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, according to the Department of Industry.


Between mid-July and mid-May, a total of 576 projects were approved for FDI. In the month of Baishakh alone (mid-April to mid-May), the government approved FDI commitments worth Rs 467.2 million.

While the highest number of projects were in the information technology (IT) sector, the tourism industry drew the largest volume of investment.


According to the department’s latest data, the hotel and tourism sector led in investment value, with 223 projects receiving FDI commitments totaling Rs 21.33 billion—accounting for 37.39 percent of the total.


Meanwhile, the IT sector saw the most project approvals, with 235 ventures receiving commitments worth Rs 1.31 billion.
