KATHMANDU, July 5: The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Office (MPCO), Ranipokhari on Sunday launched Hamro Police mobile app for the rapid response and effective crime control.
The Hamro Police mobile app enables smart phone users in the Kathmandu Valley to swiftly report incidents of crime and access the nearest police office. The app, which is available on Google Play, helps users receive police alerts and send SMS to report incidents of crime to the police.
According to Metropolitan Police Commissioner AIG Bigyan Raj Sharma, smart phone users with the help of Hamro Police app can report incidents of crime with pictorial and documentary evidence along with the exact location of the crime scene.
In our efforts to make our community safer, we developed the idea of mobile app, AIG Sharma said, adding, "So, I urge everyone to download the app."
Sixteen police personnel at MPCO will monitor the app for crime control.
"So one can make best use of the app as it is a safety tool in pocket," said Sharma. Once any complain is registered in the app, the location is displayed on a map, which saves time for the police to locate a crime scene," police said.
We hope to bring down the number of crimes in Valley as a huge population can receive security tips and notice from the Nepal Police frequently. Police said it was a joint initiative of Metro Police Kathmandu, Local Interventions Group and Islington College, with technology support from Third Pole Connects Pvt Ltd.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Office said it was a trial version launched in the Valley and the service will be expanded throughout the country. Police also claimed that it was exclusively practiced by Nepal Police in South Asia.
