Nepal performs poor in Bangkok<br/>ANFPA appeals to players for unity

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The second day of the ongoing Asian Martial Arts Games being held at Bangkok, Thailand could not be satisfactory for the Nepali team as both the Nepali players who got direct entry into the quarterfinals and semifinals in taekwondo lost their respective matches. [break]



Apsara Karki, who made direct entry into the quarterfinal getting bye in the first round of 47-51 kg category lost to K Safik of Afghanistan. Likewise, Sa Kumar Basnet lost to Yah Abulabati of Jordan 4-3 in a highly competitive match in the quarterfinal of 54-58 kg category.



In the semifinal of judo Kaluman Tamang could not play for more than 15 seconds to Kwang Yong Wu of South Korea and in the third place match he was knocked out with Warasi of Mangolia in five seconds. Kaluman had made direct entry into the semifinals as he got bye in the first round match and in quarterfinals he got walkover from a Kyrgyzstani player.



On Tuesday, Nepal´s Sabina Karki will compete in only one match under women´s 51-55 kg category in taekwondo. Six karate and four wushu players arrived in Bangkok on Monday to participate in the tournament.





ANFPA appeals to players for unity



KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The All Nepal Football Players´ Association (ANFPA) on Monday appealed to all football players to get associated with the group. The ad hoc committee of the ANFPA under the leadership of Upendra Man Singh issued the appeal at a press meet in the capital.



“We appeal to all players who are not associated with us for different reasons to get affiliated with us," Singh said.







“The new statute of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has given a voting right to the players. Though it is not sufficient, it has ensured representation of players in the statute itself and we take it positively,” he added.



Speaking at the program, ANFPA general secretary and national team captain Rakesh Shrestha said the association will formulate its statute and hold election within six months.



Players select representatives



Meanwhile, ANFPA has selected its representatives for the upcoming ANFA elections. General secretary Rakesh Shrestha, joint secretary Nabin Neupane and member Sagar Thapa have been selected representatives for the ANFA election, according to Singh. Rakesh Shrestha has been assigned with the voting rights while the rest two will observe the ANFA election to be held on August 21.
