“The delay was caused by the fact that no successive government took science and technology seriously and saw its instrumental role in over all development of the country. Only meager amount of budget is allocated for the development of science and technology,” said Dinesh Raj Bhuju, a research scientist.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment organized a function in the capital and marked the day with the slogan: "Science and Technology for Country´s prosperity."
With the aim to increase public participation in the field of science and technology, the government had decided to celebrate National Science Day on September 17 of each year.
After inaugurating the program, Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi said the Day was being observed as an attempt to make people realize that the government is gearing up for the development of science and technology and bring social and economic reform in any country.
He also urged the concerned authorities, scientists and students to observe the day to inspire themselves and the others for the development and expansion of science and technology and reap the benefits.
Bhuju opined that the Science Day would carry meaning only when the government moves ahead making progress in the field of science and technology on a yearly basis.
Meanwhile, science students also had marched in a rally from Tri-Chandra Campus to Amrit Science Campus to mark the National Science Day and also to celebrate the memorial of the late Professor Amrit Prasad Pradhan. Amrit Science Campus has been established after his name.
