KATHMANDU, March 24: The Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML has decided to withdraw the vote of no-confidence motion filed earlier against Chief Ministers of Province 1 Sher Dhan Rai and Bagmati Province Dormani Paudel.
An informal meeting of the top leaders of the Nepal-led faction of the UML on Wednesday decided to withdraw the no-confidence motion in view of the changed political context. The vote of no-confidence motion was filed when they were still part of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party that was formed after the merger of the UML and the CPN (Maoist Center).
According to leaders close to the Nepal-led faction, the decision to withdraw the vote of no-confidence motion was taken after the apex court invalidated the merger deal reached between the UML and the Maoist Center in 2018. The faction has decided to ask the lawmakers signing in the no-confidence motion filed against Province 1 Chief Minister Rai to withdraw their signatures, while it is planning to withdraw the vote of no-confidence motion itself filed earlier against Bagmati Province Chief Minister Paudel.

As per the instruction from the center, lawmakers close to senior leader Nepal have decided to withdraw no-confidence motions filed against Province 1 Chief Minister Rai. Laxman Tiwari, a supporter of no-confidence motion, said that the party members are preparing to withdraw the no-confidence motion.
According to Tiwari, they decided to withdraw the no-confidence motion in the view of different political scenarios after a vertical split of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) into CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist center). “The justification of no-confidence motion filed earlier in the Provincial assembly is now over,” he added.
Tiwari also informed that the UML lawmakers will withdraw no-confidence motion en masse. This comes amid CM Rai in his capacity as the PP leader directing the party lawmakers to withdraw the no-confidence motion filed against him within a week or face disciplinary action.
Earlier in February, as many as 37 lawmakers had filed no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Rai. Five of the lawmakers have already withdrawn their signatures from no-confidence motion.
