“Though the trade fair was initially planned for five days, we extended it for one more day as we received overwhelming response from the visitors,” Kalyan Krishna Tamrakar, chairman of branding and income source mobilization committee of FNCCI, said. “We became successful in meeting our objective of promoting Nepali products as well as provide platform for traders of participating countries to expand relations.”

FNCCI had expected total footfall of 200,000 and transaction of Rs 150 million during the expo.

The fair showcased products from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh along with Nepal. It featured 400 stalls dealing on products like leather goods, shoes, carpets, bed sheets, saris, readymade garments, cosmetics, herbs, items made of wood, plastic, metal, clay and bamboo, paper products and handicrafts, among others.

Participating companies also said the event became successful for them both in terms of marketing their products as well as expanding trade relations. “Our main objective was to find dealer for our products in Nepal. As many as 20 traders and companies are interested to promote our products here,” said Anwar Hossain, deputy manager of Bengal Polymer Wares.

Companies also said they were happy with the footfall this year and added that the fair was very organized this time as FNCCI had arranged separate pavilion for different countries.

According to FNCCI officials, a large number of Chinese and German business people, office-bearers of SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industry, celebrities and government officials, among others visited the fair.

Nepali handicrafts, newly introduced exhibition tent, live demonstration by artisans of Assam, stalls demonstrating Bangladeshi saris and garment, and Pakistani furniture were the major attractions at the fair this year, according to the organizers.

India was the partner country for this year´s event.

Companies from Bangladesh, China, India and Pakistan have already booked around 100 stalls of 3rd Nepal International Trade Fair, according to FNCCI officials.
