Nepal-India Home secy talks kicks off in capital

KATHMANDU, June 1: The Nepal-India Home Secretarial level talk is taking place in Kathmandu on Saturday.



The talks will dwell on matters relating to curbing cross-border criminal activities and improving security arrangement along the border of the two countries, Spokesperson of Ministry of Home Shankar Prasad Koirala told RSS. [break]



´The secretarial level meeting will hold discussion on the matters related to mutual interest and benefits, Koirala added.



He also said that the meeting would also review the meeting held in New Delhi, India, last year.



The bilateral meeting would also touch on the measures both the countries could take up to curb trafficking in human and smuggling of red sandalwood and Indian fake currency notes.



Last year, it was agreed for greater cooperation and information exchange between security bodies of both countries in combating terrorism, arms smuggling, insurgency, smuggling of fake currency and human trafficking.



Earlier, a 13-member talks team headed by the Home Secretary of India R K Singh arrived in Kathmandu this morning to take part in the meeting.



Singh has led a 16-member talks team while Home Ministry Secretary Nabin Kumar Ghimire is heading the Nepali delegation in the meeting.



Top officials of Ministry of Home, Foreign Affairs, Law and Justice, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers among other officials are also included in the Nepal delegation.



Likewise, Chief District Officers of Morang and Parsa district, and top officials of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department, among others are taking part in the meeting.



Meanwhile, Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Ghimire and Home Secretary of India Singh held discussions today.



During the meeting, the two discussed about bilateral security concerns and issues of mutual interests.
