Nepal-India Commerce Secretary-level meeting begins in Kathmandu

The meeting will tackle the delay in obtaining Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certificates for Nepali exporters.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10:  A Nepal-India Commerce Secretary-level meeting has commenced in Kathmandu after a four-year hiatus. The meeting will address various trade issues, including resolving problems related to Nepal's exports to India and reviewing the trade treaty between the two countries.


Baburam Adhikari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, said that the discussions are crucial given India's importance as a trading partner for Nepal. The agenda includes mutual recognition of quality certificates, with Nepal urging India to accept certificates issued by Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology.

The meeting will also tackle the delay in obtaining Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certificates for Nepali exporters.
