The high-level mechanism of the five parties that met at the prime minister´s official residence at Baluwatar on Tuesday decided to form a "credible" commission to probe the massacre in which the then king and queen were among the 10 royal family members who were murdered.
The decision of the parties comes after the deposed king´s son, Paras Shah, told a Singapore newspaper late last month that ex-crown prince Dipendra Shah had killed the royal family members.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, while inaugurating the Narayanhity Palace Museum in the capital on February 26, had said that the government would reopen the investigation.
The massacre had taken place at the Narayanhity Palace.
A government-formed probe body after the palace murders had blamed Dipendra Shah for the murders and concluded that he had shot himself after shooting other royal members.
