Nepal focused decentralization workshop held in India

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: The World Bank organized a workshop in India on ´next generation reforms in decentralization and local governance´ from December 6-8, focusing on innovations and implementation challenges in Nepal, said the WB issuing a press statement on Thursday.



The workshop was organized as a part of the WB initiative that seeks to bring together delegates from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Tanzania and Uganda to discuss contemporary issues, share experiences and strengthen South-South cooperation. [break]



A delegation of Nepali officials participated in the workshop to share experiences on decentralization and local governance issues.On the occasion, experiences of Kerala and West Bangal were also shared with the delegates. The workshop was funded by the South South Experience Exchange Facility of the World Bank.



"The initiative is part of a potentially longer term programmatic engagement by the World Bank to support Nepal in its decentralization and urbanization transitions," says the release.



The Urban Governance and Development Program: Emerging Towns Project- the banks first project in the urban sector- was signed between Nepal and the bank on June 30, 2011.
