KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Amidst all the cheering and wooing in the Rangasala hall, Robocup Nepal 2067 competition ended in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The event was organized by Robotics Club of Pulchowk Campus, one of the pioneer institutions dedicated for the development of new technologies using locally found resources.[break]

The club has already organized national robot competition for four times in last six years. It started with “Robo Soccer” in 2004. The second edition of the competition was “Robo Shooter” in 2005. From its third edition, the competition was officially named as “RoboCup Nepal”. The theme for the third edition of the contest was “RoboCup Nepa, 2064: Bhotojatra”.

Continuing the trend of mobilizing youth in the technical sector, Robotics Club, this year organized “RoboCup Nepal 2067” with the theme “Working together for better Nepal”. The slogan was chosen to promote a strong sense of helpfulness and co-operation among people, to make Nepal better and to fortify the feeling of unity, fair play and fair competition among the technical students of our country.

The game consisted of a pre-designed game field. There were white stripes on the green background which guided the robots to find their path. Each team made two robots, one manual operated by the operator and another automatic consisting of a chip and sensors which would lead the robot along the white stripes.

The robots were the symbols of “driver of the nation”, working together to complete a set of tasks to build a prosperous nation. The automatic robot received a “token of success” from manual robot and climbed up and downhill while the manual robot bridged the “broken trail”. On its way, the automatic robot gives the three scoring balls, representing child, youth and elderly people of the society, to the manual robots. The manual robot then would take the three scoring balls to the “prosperous society”. The game would complete once the automatic robot scored the “token of success” on the “chest of glory”.

There were total of 13 participants in the game consisting of Acme Engineering College, Advanced College of Engineering and Management, College of Information and Technology and Engineering, Kantipur City College, Kantipur Engineering College, Kathford International College of Engineering and Management, Khwopa Engineering College, Pokhara Engineering College (Pokhara), National College of Engineering, Nepal College of Information and Technology, Nepal Engineering College, Thapathali Campus and Western Regional Campus (Pokhara). Kantipur City College, however, did not qualify for the game because of the robot´s size.

The game reached the climax with sheer enthusiasm by the players and team members and with the students cheering, the hall resonated with the name of the colleges.

The game ended with Kathford International College of Engineering and Management and Nepal Engineering College competing for the winner´s title in which Nepal Engineering College won with 68 points to 61. Thapathali Campus stood in the second place.

The one month of constant hard work paid off for the students of Nepal Engineering College, Changunarayan, Bhaktapur, for they were the declared winners of the 5th edition of RoboCup Nepal 2067. The second position was secured by Kathford International College of Engineering and Management while Thapathali Campus received the third position.
