KATHMANDU: Nepal climbed seven spots in FIFA rankings published by the world football governing body on Thursday. Nepal now ranks 163 in the world. The rankings are calculated by adding the average points won by the team in the past 12 months and depreciating it from the average points gained in the past four years, according to FIFA.com.

Despite leaping seven places from 170 to 163, Nepal still ranks fourth among the eight South Asian teams. Afghanistan, which also climbed seven spots to 132, leads the regional ranking followed by the Maldives (152) and India (155).

The Maldives climbed one place while India slumped 10 spots behind in the new ranking. Bangladesh, which dropped eight spots behind, is hot on the heels of Nepal with a world ranking of 166, followed by Sri Lanka (168) and Pakistan (170). Bhutan remains at rock bottom of the world ranking in the 207th position.

Meanwhile, World and European champion Spain has maintained its position at the top of the world ranking while Argentina climbed two spots to secure the second position.

Germany is third, followed by Italy and Columbia while Brazil is further behind in the eighth position.
