Nepal beats Malaysia in ICC U-19 One Day World Cup Qualifier

KATHMANDU, April 15: Nepal has defeated Malaysia in the third match held under the ICC U-19 One Day World Cup, Asia Qualifier Championship underway in Malaysia.

In the match held at the Bayuemas Oval cricket pitch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today, Nepal trounced the hosts by eight wickets. This is Nepal's second victory after playing three matches. It has collected four points from three matches so far.

Nepal had beaten Singapore by 217 runs in the first match of the qualifiers while it faced a one run defeat to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second match before this.

Malaysia, which was sent to bat first after losing the toss, had posed a 93-run victory target to Nepal. In response, Nepal attained the target in 13 overs alone at the loss of two wickets.

Opener Rit Gurung made 39 runs for Nepal. He hit five fours and was not out at 39 runs by playing 45 balls.

Similarly, Asif Shekh made 26 runs and Pawan Sarraf hit 19 runs while skipper Rohit Poudel was unbeaten in six runs.

Towards bowling, Malaysian players Shafiq Syakir and Sukri Madeli each took one wicket.

Malaysia, which went to batting before this, was limited to 92 runs in 33.5 overs losing all wickets. Jelad Daniel bin Ahamed made the highest number of 37 runs for Malaysia while captain Mohamad Amir made 13 runs and Hakim Harisan 10 runs.

Pawan Sarraf and Kushal Malla of Nepal each took three wickets while Kamal Singh Airee took two wickets.

Nepal will meet Oman in its fourth match now. The winner of this qualifier will get entry to the World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2020.
