KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Nepal and Qatar have decided to review the labor agreement between the two countries. Decisions have been made to review the labor agreement reached at the fourth meeting of Qatar Joint Committee in 2005. 

In a meeting, the Qatari side agreed to move ahead as per the proposal made by Nepal for the socio-economic reintegration of Nepalis who have returned from working in Qatar as it is the main destination of Nepal's foreign employment. The Qatari side has also agreed to further organize the Qatar Visa Center and set up training centers in all seven provinces of the country to increase the efficiency of migrant workers. 

Similarly, an agreement has been reached to form a joint committee to discuss the topic to remove the ban on household labor after requested by the Qatari side. Earlier, a high-level team of Qatar officials met with the Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha including a team under the ministry to review the labor agreement. 

According to Minister Shrestha, the agreement process will move forward by focusing on the safety and in favor of the migrant workers. After Qatar’s request to lift the ban on household workers, Shrestha had held discussions with the bodies concerned to properly address the issue.
