The release of Joshi would undoubtedly contribute significantly to the deepening bilateral relations between Qatar and Nepal, fostering a bond built on mutual understanding and shared humanity.

In the intricate tapestry of international relations, the strength of a friendship is often most evident in times of crisis. Nepal has faced such a test when Bipin Joshi, one of its citizens, is believed to be held captive by Hamas. The anguish and uncertainty surrounding Joshi's fate cast a shadow over his family and the entire nation. However, amidst this adversity, Qatar has emerged as a beacon of hope and a true friend to Nepal, showcasing that diplomatic ties extend beyond politics to embody compassion and solidarity. The saga unfolded against the backdrop of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, leading to the release of numerous hostages, including foreigners. This offered a glimmer of hope to the families eagerly awaiting the return of their loved ones. Regrettably, Joshi, a Nepali national, was not among those released. His continued captivity has deepened the trauma of his family and heightened the stakes for the Nepali government to secure his release.

In a commendable diplomatic move, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached out to the Qatari government during a courtesy call by Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, in Kathmandu. The significance of this gesture cannot be overstated. Qatar's willingness to extend a helping hand in securing Joshi's release not only underscores the strength of Qatar-Nepal relations but also exemplifies Qatar's commitment to humanitarian causes. Prime Minister Dahal rightly expressed appreciation for Qatar's mediation efforts in achieving a humanitarian pause in Gaza and its role in the release of hostages, highlighting the multifaceted nature of Qatar's involvement in fostering peace and stability in the region.

Qatar's efficacy as an intermediary with Hamas is grounded in its longstanding support for Gaza. Since 2014, Qatar has provided an estimated billion US dollars' worth of aid, supporting vital services such as fuel, government salaries, and healthcare and education personnel. Qatar's hosting of Hamas' overseas political office in Doha since 2012, despite facing criticism, underscores its commitment to facilitating communication and promoting dialogue. This diplomatic channel has proven integral in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages like Bipin Joshi. In the Middle East, Qatar has positioned itself as a neutral player, hosting a major US military base while maintaining open lines of communication with groups often at odds with US interests. This balancing act, coupled with its significant role as a supplier of energy to the US, showcases Qatar's ability to navigate complex geopolitical dynamics.

In a world marked by conflicts and geopolitical tensions, Qatar's positive response to Nepal's plea for assistance in securing Joshi's release stands as a testament to the enduring strength of friendship between nations. Beyond political alliances, it is the humane and compassionate response that defines true allies. Qatar's actions have not only positioned it as a friend in need but, more importantly, a friend indeed for Nepal. As Bipin Joshi's family and the nation anxiously await his safe return, the collaborative efforts between Qatar and Nepal serve as a model for international cooperation based on empathy and solidarity. As we look ahead, there is hope that Qatar, leveraging its diplomatic influence, will successfully aid in the release of Joshi—a student who ventured to Israel as part of the Learn and Earn program. The release of Joshi would undoubtedly contribute significantly to the deepening bilateral relations between Qatar and Nepal, fostering a bond built on mutual understanding and shared humanity.
