KATHMANDU: July 5:  Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has supplied electricity to the Rara lake area at an altitude of 2,990 meters in Mugu district of Karnali Province.

NEA has provided electricity generated from the 400 Kilowatt capacity to the customers of Rara area from Monday by constructing about 25 kilometers of transmission line  from Gamgadh Hydropower Plant which is under NEA’s ownership in Mugu.

So far, electricity was being used by getting it from solar energy in the area. Now, the electricity generated by the hydropower plant will be supplied 24 hours a day. Hotels operating near Rara Lake, offices and adjoining houses have got electricity supply. Electricity has been supplied to the Rara lake area by connecting a 25 kV distribution transformer.

Sambhu Kushiyat Yadav, head of NEA’s regional office in Karnali, said that the transformer was brought into operation from Monday. “About 10 kilometers of the line had to be built in the forest of Rara National Park, so it took some time. We have succeeded in bringing electricity to the area in coordination and cooperation with the Nepal Army and locals,” said Yadav.
