KATHMANDU, May 31: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has made online meter reading available for its consumers. With the lockdown into effect, the NEA staffers are unable to visit houses for meter reading.
The consumer should register with a mobile number and desired password into the system for online meter reading. After the consumer ID is ready, the person can input the digits from the meter. The system will process meter reading and billing.
NEA regional offices transfer over 2,500 junior staff
The electricity bill can be paid through internet banking or mobile wallets like eSewa, Prabhu Pay and IME Pay. A mobile app is being developed to make the service much easier.
According to NEA, 25,000 consumers have registered after the system was launched while 8,000 have made online payments.
Currently, 700,000 consumers are paying electricity bills through an online gateway. NEA is also making arrangements to launch a system for meter reading through phone calls for consumers who do not have access to the internet.
