KATHMANDU, Oct 22: The Nepal Dairy Association (NDA) has urged the government to halt imports of milk and milk products.
Prahlad Dahal, president of the NDA, said that opening imports would lead to the downfall of the dairy business as the dairy products produced domestically are not being sold and are left in stock.
NDA starts second round with two wins
The dairy industry is failing to pay the dues of the farmers due to excess stock. The dairy industry will fall into a crisis if the government permits imports at this time, as stated by Dahal.
The NDA said that imports should not be allowed under any pretext until the market of milk and milk products in the country stabilizes and the existing stocks are sold. The government had previously suspended the imports of milk and milk products on February 15, 2024 for the benefit of the domestic industry and farmers.
