KATHMANDU, April 6: The Air Quality Index (AQI) has shown that air pollution in Kathmandu has remained high on Sunday as the capital ranked the second most polluted city in the world.
The AQI report was made public after it monitored the capital’s air at 9:30 AM
Take Urgent Measures to Control Air Pollution
Today, AQI stands at 231, which is considered unhealthy. The concentration of PM 2.5 in the air is 31.1 times higher than the World Health Organization's standards. Currently, New Delhi, the capital of India, has become the most polluted city in the world, followed by Lahore, Pakistan, which holds the third position.
Following New Delhi, Kathmandu, and Lahore, other top cities in terms of air pollution in descending order are Hanoi, Vietnam; Mumbai, India; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Wuhan, China; Shanghai, China; Chongqing, China; and Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged relevant sectors to adopt measures to reduce pollution, including proper waste management, dust control during construction, and efforts to control forest fires.
Citizens have been advised to use masks, reduce outdoor activities, and follow health safety measures.
