MADHYABINDU (NAWALPARASI), April 6: Vehicular movement will be temporarily suspended in the Daunne section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road corridor to facilitate road widening work. The decision was made during a meeting held Saturday in Daunne, which included stakeholders from both Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East and West.
According to Ghanshyam Giri, chairperson of Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality, all non-essential vehicles will be prohibited in the Daunne area from April 9 to April 13, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and again from April 14 to April 28 between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
"The decision to suspend traffic for a few hours daily was made to complete the remaining cutting work on the hill slopes and to carry out necessary repairs before the monsoon season," Giri stated.
Daunne road section in Nawalparasi opens for two-way traffic

The decision was jointly reached by key stakeholders, including district coordination chiefs and chief district officers from both Nawalparasi districts, the mayors of Bardaghat Municipality and Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality, project chiefs of both segments, project consultants, contractors, and security agencies. They agreed to intensify construction work by partially closing the road daily.
While blacktopping is underway in other sections of the Narayanghat-Butwal highway, the Daunne segment remains challenging due to uneven roads, narrow curves, temporary diversions, and dusty conditions. The demolition of structures for expansion without timely reconstruction has further worsened the travel experience for commuters.
Engineer Shiva Khanal, information officer of the eastern segment, informed that current activities in Daunne include hill cutting, wall construction, and culvert building. Out of the 114 kilometers of the highway, the 65-kilometer stretch from Gaindakot to Daunne includes service lanes in market areas. A 14-kilometer stretch in Daunne-considered a high-risk zone-is undergoing expansion into a three-lane road.
The overall road project, with a budget of Rs 17 billion, has already missed its initial deadlines and is now on its third extension, with a new completion target set for Shrawan 2082 BS (mid-July to mid-August 2025).
