KATHMANDU, August 27: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has announced that he would be contesting for the party president post in the upcoming 14th General Convention.
With this announcement, he has established a contact office at Thapagaun of New Baneshwor for meeting the party leaders and cadres.
Inaugurating the office today, the former Deputy Prime Minister said he would be competing for the party’s chief post not to defeat, retire or prove anyone else incompetent in the party.

As he said on the occasion, he wished to further strengthen the party and contribute to the party to garner a majority in upcoming elections of all levels and his candidacy would be for supporting his wishes to come true.
According to him, inspiration and contribution of founding leader BP Koirala were determining factors behind his present status in the NC.
Stating that the party had a greater role in facilitating to promulgate the Constitution with the federal democratic republic and the inclusive political provisions though the party had no majority in the Constituent Assembly (CA), the leader said the party would own up the responsibility for the effective implementation of the Constitution.
He argued that irregularities have surfaced in each sector in the country for three years as the country was governed by a political party that does not believe in the spirit of the constitution.
Leader Nidhi said his party will present this issue to the public in the upcoming election. He further shared that over 35 per cent active members were youth therefore he will facilitate the youths to come in the party leadership.
On another note, Vice President Nidhi opined that the constitution has ensured religious freedom to all. On the occasion, central committee members, district presidents and leaders from different regions were present.
