Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC Vice President and the party´s parliamentary leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the 14-state federal model presented by the Constituent Assembly Committee on State Restructuring was not acceptable to the NC.
He said the party will develop an alternative model of federal structure with suggestions from experts. Poudel said the NC is against the provision of preferential rights to ethnic groups in federal states.
Wednesday´s meeting also held discussion on structures of parliamentary organs, constitutional court and issue of providing citizenship to Non-Resident Nepalis.
NC has failed to submit its federal model to the CA committee after a model with seven federal states prepared by state structuring committee formed under Gopal Man Shrestha was rejected by the party´s Central Committee.
The NC has been insisting that the issues surrounding federalism should be settled by an independent State Restructuring Commission comprising experts.
