KATHMANDU, Oct 6: A meeting of office bearers and some influential leaders of the Nepali Congress have decided to forward to the central committee a report on the grievances of ethnic and indigenous community members of the party only after holding discussions with the party´s leaders from Indigenous nationalities.

The report was prepared by a committee led by Bhim Bahadur Tamang.[break]

According to CWC member Man Bahadur Bishwakarma, who is also a member of the Tamang-led committee, said Saturday´s meeting could not finalize the report as senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and other leaders failed to attend the meeting.

"We have decided to finalize the report through office bearers meeting on Monday and present it to the CWC meeting after incorporating the suggestions from the party´s leaders from indigenous nationalities," he said.

Bishwakarma said since all top three leaders -- President Sushil Koirala, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba -- are scheduled visit Dhading to attend the party´s function on Sunday, the next meeting of office bearers is likely to be held on Monday.

The meeting comes in the wake of senior NC members piling pressure on the party to come up with an official stance on issues related to Janajatis and Madhesis among others, and Janajati and Madhesi leaders from various major parties quitting their parties to form new parties.

The Tamang-led committee had completed its report some three months ago.

NC will launch street protests after mid-October: Singh

BIRATNGAR
: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Prakash Man Singh has said that NC will take to the streets if Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai did not step down by mid-October. Addressing a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union in Biratngar, Singh said that parties need to take a firm decision as the current government had pushed the country towards political conflict.

"The president cannot take any step as long as there is no consensus among parties," he said. "Only NC-led government can give an outlet to the current political deadlock."
