KATHMANDU, May 23: The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, is going to boycott the meeting of the Gandaki Province Assembly. The meeting of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly has been called for 3 PM on May 24.

NC chief whip for the province, Nanda Prasad Neupane, said that a petition filed by the NC against the vote of confidence of Chief Minister (CM) Khagaraj Adhikari is under consideration at the Supreme Court and that the party will not participate in the province assembly meeting until it is finalized.

When CM Adhikari received the support of 30 MPs in the province assembly, Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital announced that the CM had received a vote of confidence. Whereas in Gandaki, which has 60 province assembly members, the support of 31 MPs is required to get a vote of confidence.

Surendra Raj Pandey, leader of the NC parliamentary party in the province assembly, filed a petition at the Supreme Court on April 26, claiming that the vote of confidence received by CM Adhikari was unconstitutional.

Neupane, the chief whip of the NC parliamentary party, said that the party will not participate in the province assembly meeting and any work done by the government until the resolution of the case pending at the Supreme Court.
