NC has no information about impeachment proposal against Karki: NC chief whip Shrestha

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has said that it has no information about the impeachment proposal registered in the Parliament against Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki.

Talking to Republica Online on Thursday, chief whip of the NC Chinkaji Shrestha said that his party does not have any information regarding the impeachment proposal registered against Karki in the Parliament.

“The NC does not have any information about the impeachment proposal registered against Karki in the Parliament,” said Shrestha, adding, “No parties have discussed this issue with our party.”

He added that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has not given any direction to this end, either.

As many as 157 lawmakers (107 from  main opposition CPN-UML and 50 from ruling CPN (Maoist Center) registered an impeachment proposal against CIAA Chief Karki at  the Parliament Secretariat on  Wednesday evening.

Even though the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) registered the impeachment proposal against Kaki, NC lawmakers have not signed it.

The lawmakers will hold discussion on the impeachment issue in the Parliament today. However, NC said it does not have any information regarding this.

“We do not have any information whether the Parliament will hold discussion on the impeachment issue today,” said Shrestha. “A Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress to be held today is likely to discuss this issue,” said Shrestha.           

However, NC lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada said that the NC will take part in the deliberation on the impeachment of Karki in the Parliament today, saying that Karki acted taking the law into his hand.
