KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to start the village/municipal convention from Saturday as a part of its preparation to hold the 14th General Convention on the scheduled date.
A meeting of the NC office-bearers and ex-office-bearers held on Friday at the party’s parliamentary office in Singha Durbar decided to commence the village/town convention in 64 districts where the ward convention has been already held on September 25, according to party Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma. This means that only local-level conventions will be concluded in these 64 districts before Dashain festival.

However, in mountainous districts, the district convention will take place within the scheduled date.
Likewise, the meeting held under the chair of Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba agreed to sort out issues of party active membership in the remaining 13 districts first and organize the ward convention.
Although the ward convention began on September 3, the party is yet to hold these conventions in 3 districts. These include eight ward conventions in Province 2 and remaining others in Surkhet, Dolpa, Rasuwa, Rupandehi and Kailali districts.
Earlier, the party had announced its plan to hold the Province Assembly regional convention on September 28, the House of Representatives regional convention and the district convention with a single electoral constituency on October 1. The district convention with more than one constituency in mountainous areas had been scheduled for October 4 and the Province convention from October 27 to 29. The NC planned to hold the General Convention from November 25 to 29 in Kathmandu.
