KATHMANDU, Nov 15: Nepali Congress (NC) on Monday submitted a letter to the Parliament Secretariat demanding the declaration of Ram Chandra Paudel as winner unopposed in the prime ministerial election.

NC parliamentary party member-secretary Mahendra Dhoj GC registered the letter on Monday afternoon.[break]

On Sunday, a joint meeting of NC parliamentary party and central committee had decided that the latest verdict by the Supreme Court (SC) had paved the way for Speaker to declare Paudel, the NC parliamentary party leader and sole candidate for PM, as the winner.

Maoist and UML leaders, who had been pressing Speaker Subas Nembang to stop the ongoing process to elect a new PM and start the process afresh by amending the regulation, argued that the last week´s SC verdict has paved the way for amendment as one of the alternatives to end the deadlock.
