KATHMANDU, Feb 4: Political parties have reached an understanding to run both houses of parliament and the parliamentary committees based on the calendar prepared by the Parliament Secretariat. CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Whip Mahesh Bartola said that the parties have agreed in principle to run the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly according to the calendar prepared by the Parliament Secretariat.


HoR Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire and Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina have completed their homework to run the Parliament and the parliamentary committees on the basis of the calendar. The parties have agreed to conduct the meetings in a more effective way from the upcoming session itself.

Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire held a discussion on the calendar with party whips and chief whips on Friday. The parties have reached an agreement in principle to adhere to the calendar. “For now, we have initially agreed to prepare a 15-day calendar,'”said Bartola.


Under the 15-day calendar of the HoR, three days will be allocated for parliamentary sessions and the remaining three days allocated for committee meetings. MPs will have the option to visit their constituencies when committee meetings are not scheduled. 


The meeting of the National Assembly Business Advisory Committee has approved calendars for the months of Magh (mid-January to mid-February) and Falgun (mid-February to mid-March).


President Ram Chandra Paudel has called for a joint meeting of both houses on February 5. The National Assembly's approved calendar outlines meetings scheduled for February 5, February 7, February 11, and February 12. Additionally, meetings are planned for February 18, February 23, February 26, February 29, February 30, March 4, March 10, March 12, and March 13. The possible agenda for these days have also been mentioned in the calendar.
