KATHMANDU, March 17: Nepali Congress (NC) on Tuesday called on President and the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army Dr Ram Baran Yadav to express its concern over the government´s decision not to extend the tenure of eight brigadier generals of Nepal Army who retired on Monday.
"Nepali Army now lacks competent hands after the retirement of the eight brigadier generals who have done important courses," our correspondent Yuvraj Acharya quoted NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel as telling journalists after meeting the president at his residence at Dhapasi, Kathmandu.
NC´s concern has come a day after the government did not extend the tenure of the brigadier generals.
Poudel also accused the Maoist-led government of trying to take revenge on the army who fought against the Maoist during the insurgency period. "The Maoist have not given up their rebellion mentality," he said.
The party has taken Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s refusal to extend the term as a ploy to demoralize the national army.
Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa had turned down the request for extending their term on Sunday, letting their retirement ipso facto.
