KATHMANDU, Sept 17: President of Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba is staying isolated at his residence in Budhanilkantha after a staff member of his secretariat was diagnosed with novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Deuba’s personal secretary Bhanu Deuba, other members of the secretariat, however, tested negative during lab tests. President Deuba’s throat swab samples will be collected later on Friday.

As Deuba has gone into home-isolation, a meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the main opposition party NC scheduled for Thursday afternoon has been deferred. The meeting was to discuss the appointment of vacant seats at various constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) .

Meanwhile, the health condition of NC General Secretary, Shashank Koirala, who is undergoing treatment at Om Hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19 on September 9, is gradually improving. Koirala, through Facebook live earlier today, shared that he will stay for three more days at the hospital.
