KATHMANDU, June 30: BP Study and Research Centre is set to be built at Hadigaun of Bishalnagar in Kathmandu at the initiative of Jananayak BP Koirala Memorial Trust.
Nepali Congress (NC) Central President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba laid a foundation stone for the Centre's building amidst a special programme held on Wednesday. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Bagmati Province Government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City are jointly funding the project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 90 million.
On the occasion,  NC President Deuba said though the project was conceptualised long ago, it could not be brought into action due to several reasons.
He lauded the Trust for its initiation for establishing the Centre in recognition of a great politician like BP Koirala.
Party’s General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala described BP as an international personality. He said that the Centre would also be a research venue for foreigners.
Kathmandu Metropolis mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said he was pleased to be part of the project dedicated to the respected politician and an ideal personality.  The Metropolis has taken the project as one of its significant achievements, he said.
General Secretary of BP Koirala Memorial Trust Ramchandra Pokhrel said the establishment of the Centre would help further promote and explore BP’s thoughts, his political and literary life.
BP is the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal. The seven-storey building is expected to complete within the next two years and it will be undertaken under the management and supervision of the Kathmandu Metropolis.
