Newly elected office bearers and central committee members will take their oaths of office and secrecy at a special ceremony scheduled for 2 pm at the party’s central office, BP Memorial Building, in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

According to the Central Election Committee, all newly elected office bearers and central committee members, except the party president, will take the oath today. Newly elected President Gagan Kumar Thapa had already taken his oath of office and secrecy on October 17, the day of Phulpati during the Dashain festival.

The final results of the elections held during the party’s 15th general convention, which took place in Kathmandu from October 4 to 9, were officially announced on October 16. Both the inaugural and closed sessions were held at an open stage, while voting took place at the open stage and the National Assembly Hall.

Voting was held on October 9, with the counting of votes for the party president beginning that night at the National Assembly Hall. The presidential election results were announced early the following morning.

Votes for the other positions were counted from the night of October 10 at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

Katuwal said the counting process was completed within a week this time, compared with 12 days during the party’s 14th general convention, when votes from 4,700 voters were counted. This time, the committee counted votes from 7,392 voters.

According to Katuwal, nearly 162,000 ballot papers had to be counted. Elections were held for 229 positions across 77 categories, with each voter required to cast votes using 23 ballot papers.

Thapa won the presidency with nearly 94 percent of the votes, the highest share secured by any candidate in the election.

The newly elected office bearers include Bishwa Prakash Sharma as senior vice president, Dr Chandrakanta Bhandari and engineer Madhu Acharya as open category vice presidents, Pushpa Bhusal as women’s vice president, and Binod Chaudhary as inclusive category vice president.

Pradip Paudel, Udaya Shumsher Rana and Dr Dila Sangroula Pant were elected as the three general secretaries. The convention also elected a central committee representing a mix of inclusive groups and professional backgrounds.

Following the oath taking and assumption of office, the new Central Working Committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting at the party’s Sanepa headquarters today.

The meeting is expected to thank general convention representatives, the Election Committee, security personnel, journalists and party members who helped organise the convention.

Party leaders said the meeting would also discuss upcoming district and provincial conventions.
