NC decision to field Koirala as PM candidate detrimental: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Nepali Congress (NC) Central Committee Member and youth leader Gagan Thapa said that the NC's decision to field President Sushil Koirala as the candidate for the next prime minister would be detrimental to the party.

"President Koirala neither commands majority to win the election of the prime minister nor has he convincing agendas," Thapa told Republica, adding, "We are stunned by this sudden decision which is against the desire of most of the central committee members."

This decision has just backed up the doubt that the NC is acting at the behest of a foreign power.

"President had not expressed his desire to become prime minister until yesterday," said Thapa and added that he had been saying publicly that he would not become prime minister again. This sudden decision to field him as the candidate for next prime minster is surprising."

Most of the CC members of the NC were in favor of the CPN-UML to head the next government based on the gentleman agreement despite the desire being expressed by senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice President Ramchandra Paudel for the top post.
