PM made the request during a meeting between him and senior NC leaders at his office Sunday afternoon. According to NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC, the PM told them that protests are not necessary at the time when the government has already formed the judicial commission to investigate the incident and decided to provide Rs. one million compensation to the family of the deceased.[break]

NC Vice-Chairman Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Sitaula of NC were present in the meeting.

On Sunday morning, a meeting of office bearers of NC had decided not to withdraw the nation-wide strike.

The meeting held at NC President Sushil Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj, had also decided to take further decision on the party’s program of protest after holding talks with the Prime Minister.

On Saturday, NC cadres had staged demonstrations across the country over the Poudel´s death who had succumbed to his injuries he sustained during the December 6 jail attack in Bharatpur.

After Saturday´s demonstrations, many have called into question the NC´s vision of non-violence it has long been priding in as being the country´s oldest democratic party.
